Importing images

If you have lots of images, you can import them automatically - many at the same time. This is much faster than creating them individually. You need some basic skills, though...

  1. If possible, resize the photos first - for instance to 600x800 pixels - with software like XNview or Irfanview. This is a good idea, because it makes uploading the files much quicker...!
  2. Now you are ready to upload them to the webserver:
    • If you know how to work with an FTP-program (software to transfer files from your computer to a remote one), and have one installed, please use it:
      * FTP-server: 69.73.180.177
      * Username: etnohysterics [at] folx [dot] org
      * Password: dontdrinkandjam

    • Otherwise, there are web sites offering FTP services to upload files (like your photos): for instance www.net2ftp.com ... here's how to work with that one:
      • Go to the website www.net2ftp.com - login with the data provided above. Click the button "Upload".
      • On the next page, select the files (or ZIP file) you want to upload
      • Then click the green check mark logo - and you should be done with it. Gratulations! The photos are now stored on the server of www.folx.org and ready for being imported.

        An advantage of net2ftp: you can upload ZIPped files of your photos (not more than ~4MB each = ~30 photos)
        Less work this way, and works even faster.

  3. Last step: import the photos into the website, so they can be seen by everyone:
    • log into your www.folx.org account and

    • go to this page: http://folx.org/admin/content/image_import
    • There just mark all the photos you want to import, select a gallery where they should go, write some keywords if you want and click the button "import": wait for a short while, and you should be done. Gratulations!

Problems with importing images...

Hi Stoney - I have trouble with importing images. My zip-file size is 4.40 MB, so that can't be the problem, I think. When i click the "import" button, a blank site appears and nothing else, so I'm a bit confused... Could it be an error at the web-site?
- Maja.

Hi Maja, as I can see on the

Hi Maja,

as I can see on the image import page, the FTP file upload worked perfectly! But the images are too big - not in file size, but in dimensions. Do you have any chance to resize them before zipping them, for instance to 800x600? I wrote something about it on this page.

If this is too techie for you at the moment: just send the ZIP file to my email adress (stoney at euroots dot com), and I can do it for you - I'll be back in Vienna tomorrow evening.

lg, Stephan
